What does "private AI infrastructure" mean?

Private AI infrastructure means language models and AI agents run on hardware that belongs to your company or is operated exclusively for you, rather than on a shared service billed per request. The defining property is not location alone but exclusivity: nobody else's workload shares the same instance, and no request leaves your control.

Not the same as "on-premise software"

On-premise software describes where an application is installed, on a server you own rather than a vendor's cloud. Private AI infrastructure is a narrower claim about a model: it can run on-premise, in a data centre you operate, or in a zone named exclusively for you at an external provider, and still count as private, because the exclusivity of the instance is what matters, not the building it sits in.

In practice

In our own delivery, this usually means a model with open weights deployed inside a customer's data centre or a named zone at a European provider, connected to their document store with per-user permission checks. No request is billed individually, and the model weights can be taken elsewhere at any time, on terms fixed in the contract.
